Built to Serve, Designed to Grow: The Meeting Place Expands Its Gulf Coast Impact

For Geneva Dummer, service has never been limited to a single role, profession, or place. It is the thread connecting every chapter of her journey, from serving her country and supporting fellow veterans to creating spaces where entrepreneurs can build businesses of their own.

Today, that commitment is opening new doors. With financing from Renaissance Community Loan Fund, The Meeting Place, LLC is expanding into Gulfport and strengthening its presence as a regional hub for entrepreneurship, collaboration, and community development.

This investment represents more than the purchase of a property; it represents confidence in a proven business, pride in a veteran and woman-owned enterprise, and a shared commitment to creating economic opportunity across the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

A Foundation of Service and Excellence

Born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida, Geneva joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from high school. During her seven years of honorable service, she worked as an Avionics Technician and steadily advanced through positions of increasing responsibility, first becoming a Collateral Duty Inspector and later a Quality Assurance Inspector. Her military career strengthened the qualities that continue to shape her leadership today: discipline, precision, accountability, and the ability to see both the smallest detail and the larger mission.

After leaving the Navy, Geneva pursued a new challenge through higher education. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from the University of Wyoming, followed by a Master of Science in Molecular Biology from the University of Tennessee College of Medical Health Sciences where her work was focused in gene therapy delivery options for cancer treatment.

Although her professional journey would eventually lead beyond the laboratory, her education sharpened the analytical thinking and problem-solving skills that now guide her work as an entrepreneur, strategist, and community leader.

Creating a Place Where Businesses Belong

After moving to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2008, Geneva brought her talents to positions in human resources, risk management, information technology, and financial operations.  Through these experiences, Geneva saw a need within the local business community. Entrepreneurs and small business owners needed professional spaces where they could meet with clients, focus on their work, build relationships, and grow without carrying the full expense of a traditional storefront.

In October 2016, Geneva responded to that need by opening The Meeting Place, LLC in downtown Biloxi.  With the welcoming promise of “Your Office Away From Home,” The Meeting Place provides economically advantageous, Class A workspace for entrepreneurs, remote professionals, small business owners, and creative teams. Its private offices, collaborative workspaces, and professional meeting rooms allow clients to focus on serving their customers while The Meeting Place staff manages the demands of maintaining a brick-and-mortar building.

More than a coworking facility, The Meeting Place was created as an environment where ideas take shape, connections become partnerships, and businesses are given room to thrive.

Building Businesses and Strengthening Communities

Geneva’s vision has always reached beyond office walls. Through partnerships with the Mississippi Small Business Development Center, Mississippi Enterprise for Technology, Innovate Mississippi, Gulf Coast Business Council, Greater Biloxi Economic Development Foundation, and all local chambers of commerce, The Meeting Place functions as a true business incubator.  Its mission is rooted in economic and community development, creating an ecosystem where emerging and established businesses can access the space, relationships, and resources needed to move forward.  Geneva has also served small businesses throughout the region as a contract counselor for the Mississippi Small Business Development Center and as a regional partner in Innovate Mississippi’s CoBuilders Accelerator Program, hosting the Gulf Coast Pitch Competition for 4 years.   

Today, she continues that work as the Mississippi Gulf Coast Veteran Business Counselor for the Veterans Business Outreach Center at Mississippi State University. She also serves as a Boots to Business instructor for Keesler Air Force Base and Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport, helping veterans and military spouses explore entrepreneurship through training, counseling, mentoring, and resource referrals. She will also host the Pitch Competition portion of the upcoming ScaleUp event for the MS SBDC which brings together the Capitalize and 101 Women in Business events in a 2-day seminar. 

Her impact was formally recognized in 2026 when The Meeting Place was honored as the Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year at the Mississippi SBA Small Business Awards. The award celebrated not only the strength of the company Geneva built, but also the entrepreneurs, veterans, and communities empowered by her leadership.

A Partnership Built for Growth  

At Renaissance Community Loan Fund, financing is about more than completing a transaction. It is about recognizing potential, strengthening communities, and helping entrepreneurs build something that will create lasting impact.  RCLF’s investment is helping The Meeting Place build upon more than a decade of success by expanding into downtown Gulfport. The new location represents an important step in Geneva’s vision for a more connected Gulf Coast business community. As a major commercial and economic center, Gulfport continues to experience growth among entrepreneurs, remote professionals, service-based businesses, and small companies seeking flexible, professional workspace. The expansion will allow The Meeting Place to serve a broader network of business owners while complementing its established Biloxi operations. In addition to coworking and meeting space, the Gulfport location will support workshops, networking events, and business incubation resources that encourage collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth.

This third location is more than an expansion of physical space. It is an expansion of opportunity.

Through its partnership with Geneva, RCLF is helping create a place where more entrepreneurs can begin, businesses can mature, and communities can benefit from the jobs, services, connections, and economic activity they generate.

Leadership That Reaches Beyond Business

Geneva’s commitment to the Mississippi Gulf Coast can also be seen throughout her civic and nonprofit service. She currently serves as Director and Administrator for the Heritage Trails Partnership of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, President of Bike Walk Mississippi, Treasurer of the Greater Biloxi Economic Development Foundation, and Treasurer for the Biloxi Civic Orchestra. She is also a member of the Gulf Coast Business Council and shares her talents and building space with local community theater groups.

Whether she is advocating for connected communities, mentoring a veteran entrepreneur, supporting economic development, melting into a character on stage, or creating a professional home for a growing business, Geneva leads with purpose.

She and her husband, Stephen, who is also a veteran and owns a corporate law firm, live in Biloxi with their two children. Together, their story reflects a shared commitment to service, entrepreneurship, and the community they call home.

A Legacy Still Being Built

Geneva Dummer has spent her career demonstrating what is possible when preparation meets purpose and opportunity meets the right partner. From inspecting aviation systems for the U.S. Navy to building a regional network of spaces where entrepreneurs can succeed, she has carried the same standard of excellence into every mission.

The expansion of The Meeting Place into Gulfport is a proud milestone for a veteran and woman-owned business, but its impact extends far beyond one entrepreneur.  Every office filled, every workshop held, every connection made, and every business launched from within its walls will contribute to a stronger regional economy and a more vibrant Mississippi Gulf Coast.
