“I’ve been renting so long, I never thought I would or could be a homeowner and today I closed on MY new house…”

-Allie Williams

Tunica County CDC’s Executive Director presents Allie and Sandra Williams the keys to their new home.
Congratulations to mother and daughter, Allie and Sandra Williams, who are first time homebuyers! The Williams purchased their new home with their Section 8 Voucher from North Delta Regional Housing Authority (NDRHA) and financing from Renaissance Community Loan Fund. The CDC developed the three bedroom, two bath and carport with construction financing from Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC).

Tunica County CDC New Housing Initiative moves families with Section 8 Vouchers from renters to Homeowners. Allie and her daughter, Sandra are the first family in Tunica County to qualify and purchase a home in the program. The New Housing Initiative converts the Section 8 Voucher to the Homeownership Voucher and qualifies the family for a mortgage loan through our credit counseling and financial education programs.

The CDC partners with NDRHA, LISC, and Renaissance Community Loan Fund to make homeownership a reality for Section 8 tenants.

Marcus Bell has had a love for trucks and trucking ever since he was a little boy. His father has been driving a truck for over 47 years, and he would take Marcus with him on his out of town trips. This seed of love for the trucking industry was planted at an early age, and it continued to grow. Marcus has now been driving on his own for 20 years.

After driving for various companies over the years and continuing  to build on his knowledge of the industry, Marcus knew that it was time he combined his passion for trucking and his extensive experience into something more substantial and long-term. He founded Bell Trucking in 2013 and purchased the company’s first truck. He was also awarded a Gold Star of Achievement for excellent customer service.

Five years and many more miles later, Bell Trucking, with the help of Renaissance’s flexible underwriting and personal one-one-one financial counseling, purchased a brand new, state-of-the-art truck. The new truck not only allows Marcus and Bell Trucking to continue providing excellent customer service for their clients, but affords them the peace of mind knowing they have dependable equipment to grow the business for years to come.

As a single mother, Kathleen Duprey has worked hard to support her children, but an early homeownership experience led to years of financial hardship. She was fortunate to have family to rent from, and often live with, but she always wondered how and when she would ever be able to have her own home again.
Kathleen’s sister-in-law told her about Renaissance Community Loan Fund and how they help those with less than perfect credit and limited income become homeowners. She was hesitant to take the step for fear of being turned down for the program, but after 5 years, she knew it was time to start again on her own. “My two children are the reason I went for it,” said Duprey. “And I thank God every day that I did. Renaissance not only works with all applicants, but they welcome you and are excited for you, no matter what your financial challenges may be. The entire process was a wonderful experience, from the first call, to the homebuyer class, to the closing table.”
Through Renaissance’s Dream Fund, a Home Purchase Advisor worked closely with Kathleen to help her overcome her fears of becoming a homeowner, all while working through the financial issues that were blocking her path to homeownership. In addition, the “Project Reinvest: Homeownership” program that Renaissance offers provided Kathleen with an additional $10,500 of down payment assistance toward her mortgage loan. New homeowner Kathleen has never been happier. “I want to thank Renaissance for giving me the opportunity to do what I thought was the impossible… and realize dreams do come true!”

I want to thank God for this blessing of my new home and leading me to Renaissance Community Loan Fund (RCLF). I also want to say thank you to Ms. Margaret DiSalvo and RCLF for being my lender and helping me finance my new home. Ms. DiSalvo was a great asset in helping me get things in order. She has a great personality and was wonderful to work with. I thought the process was going to be stressful, but this was not so thanks to Ms. DiSalvo. And I can't leave out Mrs. Cheri Walton. I want to say thank you for getting me started on this journey. I really appreciated Ms. Walton for being there for me every step of the way in the beginning. It truly means a lot to me. I'm giving all the praise to RCLF and their team for making my dream of owning my first home for me and my daughter, Destiny, come true!

After 9 years of renting, Gloria Harper was ready to invest in herself and her family with a home of her own. “I wanted to become a homeowner because I was spending a ton of money on rent, and I had no stake in the house I was living in. Through the Dream Fund’s personalized financial counseling and homebuyer education, Gloria was able to turn her dream into reality.

Laura Jackson, Owner
Founded in 2000 on the belief that every child deserves the chance to learn and develop in a nurturing environment, Sonshine Daycare is one of the few remaining area childcare centers that works with the Department of Human Services to provide children in foster care and those from low-income families affordable tuition rates. After receiving a loan through Renaissance’s financial lending initiatives, the school was able to settle an existing debt and refinance its mortgage under more favorable terms than that of traditional lending. The resulting benefits have offered Sunshine Daycare the needed stability to grow its programs, giving more children in critical need the earliest foundation for academic success, which they will carry for a lifetime.
